Ayurveda, which translates as “knowledge of longevity”, is the oldest form of health and healing known. This healing modality works via prevention and by addressing the root cause of illness, instead of the symptoms. Ayurveda originates from India and has its roots in the elemental theory. According to Ayurveda, each individual has their own unique constitution (dosha) of Vata (ether & air), Pitta (water & fire), and Kapha (water & earth).
Using diet, lifestyle, herbs, and yoga therapy that are unique to your own constitution, we will work to ensure you are living your best life physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Vata: The dosha of ether and air with the qualities of dry, light, cold, rough, subtle, mobile and clear. This dosha’s main site is in the colon with secondary sites in the bones, ears, thighs, and brain. Signs of excess Vata include spacey/ungrounded thought patterns, anxiety, insomnia, ringing in the ears, numbness in the skin, aching in the lower back, gas, etc.
Pita: The dosha of water and fire with the qualities of oily, sharp, hot, light, spreading, and liquid. This dosha’s main site is in the small intestine with secondary sites in the liver, eyes, skin, blood, heart, and brain. Signs of excess Pita include irritability, inclination/sensitivity to criticism, quick to anger, skin rash, excess heat in the body, red eyes, heartburn, inflammation, etc.
Kapha: The dosha of water and earth with the qualities of heavy, slow, cool, oily, slimy, dense, soft, static, and cloudy. This dosha’s main site is in the stomach with secondary sites in the lungs, pancreas, sinuses, lymph, joints, nose, and mouth. Signs of excess Kapha include apathy, obesity, congestion, sinus infections, coughs, edema, underactive thyroid, high cholesterol, etc.

Nasya is the nasal administration of medicinal oil to pacify all doshas but particularly Vata. This treatment begins with a warm oil massage focused on the head, neck, and shoulders to specifically assist in the opening of the sinus cavity. Nasya oil is then placed in the nostrils followed by marma point therapy (energy work) on the face and head. Nasya is great for decongesting the sinuses, balancing the mind and emotions, as well as helping stiffness in the head, neck, and jaw.

This traditional Ayurvedic treatment is used to enhance the health and clarity of the eyes. A frame of chickpea flour is created around the closed eyes, which the practitioner fills with lukewarm ghee. After some time, the recipient is asked to intermittently open their eyes, allowing the ghee to lift and expel impurities. After treatment, turmeric smoke is used to flush the eyes. This treatment is thought to prevent various eye conditions such as conjunctivitis and glaucoma, and can be restorative for people who experience dry eye or excessive eye strain.
